Therapy for People in the Helping Professions
People who work in the helping professions, such as social workers, psychologists, physicians, teachers, attorneys, etc.often find it difficult to seek help for themselves when they are in need of supportive therapy. The assurance of having their professional identity protected while sorting out personal issues is critical. I work independently of insurance companies and third party contracts that require information and restrict the parameters of the therapy process. I welcome the opportunity to work with you on how to create the changes you may be seeking to make in your life in a private, professionally respectful and collaborative relationship.
Individual Therapy with Adolescents and Young Adults
I've worked closely with high school and college communities providing therapy for students and their families. For the past 15 years I also teach at the universit level and have the advantage of understanding what it takes to not only get into college, but what is required to be successful through complettion of a college degree.. My experiences continue to inform my practice about the changing pressures that young people are facing before, during and after their high school and college years. Transitioning to young adulthood can feel overwhelming sometimes and having strategies that guide you in this process can benefit you now and in your future.
Family Therapy with Adolescents and Young Adults
Launching teens into adulthood can be a difficult transition time for parents who are trying to find the best balance between supportively holding on and appropriately letting go. It is also an anxiety producing time for young adults trying to establish their own independence while sometimes relying on the support of parents. Having guidance in learning HOW to establish new lines of adult <-> adult communication to strengthen more fulfilling family relationships is often a goal of therapy.
Adult Family Therapy
Parental and sibling relationships continue to be core influences throughout one's lifetime. People often choose, as adults to enter therapy, to address and resolve issues from childhood, either that continue to play out in their adult sibling relationships, or that resulted in emotional cutoff from family members This is an opportunity to examine past influences in the present context of adulthood and to strengthen or re-establish family relationships with the benefit of adult perspectives and problem solving skills.
I work with spouses and partners at all stages of relationship.
I am also committed to providing couples therapy with interracial, inter cultural, and/or interfaith couples to help individuals develop ways to strengthen their relationships by respectfully acknowledging their differences; broadening skills to expand their perspectives, and strengthening their emotional intimacy.
