As a Clinical Social Worker and Therapist my goal is to help you identify and build upon your strengths in order to feel happier and experience more satisfying relationships.
I believe that change is always possible and that it is never too late to change, regardless of age or stage of life.
Change happens in stages (about 5 stages actually). Most people want to change themselves very quickly, (or others, but this rarely works) and frequently give up efforts if their initial attempts fall short of their expectations. Repeated efforts without success can leave one feeling increasingly powerless and depressed. Most people seek to change the symptoms (the visible bruises of distress), but deep and lasting change of longstanding patterns requires a more holistic and comprehensive strategy. This involves examining the roots of the problem(s) and gaining some insight into how and why self defeating patterns developed. This process takes time and investment. I work in a collaborative, interactive, and respectful style to provide professional guidance through this change process. Most people find that running the same thoughts through the same head usually brings about the same answers. It is usually helpful to have a fresh perspective. I use humor in therapy sometimes, it can be a great source of strength. Laughter reminds us that healing is possible and that happiness can be generated in unexpected moments.
While we can't go back and change the past, we can draw insights from history that will help us live more fully in the present and create a realistic vision for the future. Together we will explore your needs and goals and I will help you develop some practical strategies for how to accomplish them. By applying various therapy approaches and techniques we will examine the behavior patterns, negative perceptions and attitudes that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
